ScopeCaps Lead the Way in Innovation

Innovation is perhaps one of the most overused buzzwords of our time. But for us, innovation is more than just an empty word; we live it every day. At Ovesco, innovation is also part of our corporate culture. A good example of this is our ScopeCaps product family.

What are the ScopeCaps?

ScopeCaps are a series of endoscopic caps. Each of them has been developed to solve a specific problem that users encounter in endoscopic practice. The fact that we have achieved this goal is demonstrated not only by the positive feedback we have received from hospitals worldwide, but also by the fact that 3 of our 4 ScopeCaps (ArgoCap®, BougieCap and OTSG Xcavator®) have been recognized with the ESGE Innovation of the Year Award.

ArgoCap® and APC treatment

APC treatment is used for a variety of indications, but it presents users with various challenges: peristalsis in the gastrointestinal tract causes tissue adhesion to the probe and makes it difficult to see the treatment site and ensure uniform treatment.

With the ArgoCap®, the APC probe is fixed in a defined position within the cap and attached to the endoscope. The ArgoCap® protects the probe from tissue contact and improves handling and visibility, facilitating focused treatment. The working channel remains free.

BougieCap and dilation

Stenoses and strictures in the upper gastrointestinal tract are dilated using a variety of instruments. The best known of these are perhaps the Savary-Gilliard dilators. The major disadvantage of this method is that the dilation is performed without visual control, so the user cannot see the effect of the dilation immediately.

The BougieCap is a transparent cap that is placed on the endoscope. The design is two-tiered, enabling two different dilations in millimeter increments with a single cap. The clear material of the cap allows users to see the results of the dilation directly, enabling gentle and precise dilation to the correct width.

Another advantage? The BougieCap conserves resources – up to 99% reduction in waste are possible compared to conventional dilation methods.

OTSG Xcavator® and high-volume capacity

Removing foreign bodies or tissue from the gastrointestinal tract is part of the endoscopist’s daily work. However, not all tissue is easy to remove. Necrotic tissue or certain food boluses such as meat or fish are very difficult to grasp. Removal using conventional methods is laborious and time-consuming.

The OTSG Xcavator® has an extra-large grasping capacity. With its two shovels, large amounts of this difficult-to-grasp tissue can be well grasped and removed. The conical design and blunt shovels protect the patient’s healthy tissue.

FBR Set for foreign body removal

Even though the FBR Set is the only one of the ScopeCaps that has not won a prize, we regularly receive positive feedback from users, especially about the extra-large cap of the FBR Set. The flexible cap has a large volume and is particularly helpful for safely removing sharp-edged foreign bodies from the patient. The Grasper, with its different teeth, helps to grasp foreign bodies.

The future of ScopeCaps

We are not running out of ideas anytime soon. We continue to work every day to expand our product portfolio and to broaden the possibilities of endoscopic practice. Stay tuned!
