Ovesco Endoscopy and BioScopeX join forces in developing new tissue biopsy technology
Tuebingen, Germany, January 2025. Ovesco Endoscopy, Tuebingen, Germany, and BioScopeX, Struer, Denmark, have entered into an agreement to bring a new, patented technique for endoscopic biopsies to market.
The procedure developed by BioScopeX allows for the collection of multiple biopsies from the tissue of the digestive tract without the need to pull the instrument out between each biopsy. This approach saves time, simplifies handling, and helps avoid errors in sample allocation compared to conventional techniques. The simultaneous collection of multiple biopsies, known as ‘step biopsies’, is necessary for various diseases, such as chronic gastritis, reflux disease of the esophagus, or tumors. In Germany alone, approximately 290,000 step biopsies are performed annually in the hospital sector. New procedures can lead to significant improvements.
Marc Schurr, CEO of Ovesco, commented: “We are looking forward to bringing this innovative product to the market and contribute to more effective diagnostic procedures in digestive endoscopy.”
Ovesco is acquiring the technology from BioScopeX in an asset deal, the details of which are not public. The companies are now working together to bring the technology to series production. The transaction was jointly structured by Arbour Consulting, Tuebingen, and Roedl & Partner, Stuttgart.
