New multicenter study: FTRD® again delivers high success rates in colorectal EFTR
FTRD® achieves high technical success and R0 resection rates in EFTR of complex colorectal lesions and early colorectal cancers, with a manageable safety profile
Key findings
- 89% technical success rate (151/170 procedures)
- 79% R0 resection rate (130/164 evaluable cases)
- Adenocarcinoma confirmed on histopathology in 23% (39/170) of lesions
- Recurrence rate of 7.4% (11/148) over a median follow-up of 5 months
- Adverse events (AEs) occurred in a minority of cases: early in 4.1% (7/170) of cases including snare malfunction (n = 2), bleeding (n = 3), and perforation (n = 2); delayed: 12.9% (22/170) of cases, most commonly bleeding (n = 11)
- Appendicitis occurred in 17% (7/41) of appendiceal cases
- AEs were significantly associated with female sex (64% vs. 40%, p = 0.03) and appendiceal orifice lesions (46% vs. 21%, p = 0.02)
Study details
- Multicenter, retrospective cohort study across 13 centers in Australia and New Zealand (January 2018–July 2025)
- 170 colorectal EFTR procedures with FTRD® (mean patient age: 67 years; 57% male; comorbidities: 65%)
- Aim: Evaluation of technical success, histological outcomes, recurrence rates, and safety of colorectal EFTR with FTRD®, and identification of patient- and lesion-related predictors of AEs
- Indications: Resection of scars after previously incomplete resection of cancer (12%), suspected amyloidosis (diagnostic, 2%), appendiceal orifice polyp (23%), diverticular-associated polyp (3%), recurrence at prior polypectomy site (21%), non-lifting lesion (36%), subepithelial lesion (2%)
- Mean procedure time: 51 min (SD 28.5)
- Mean lesion size: 19 mm (SD 7.3)
