10 years of FTRD® – Closing the gap between endoscopy and surgery
The Ovesco FTRD® System is turning 10 years old! FTRD® enables endoscopic full-thickness resection up to the serosa. The resection is only performed once the target site is securely closed so that the organ lumen is not opened during the procedure. The FTRD® System family now includes the colonic FTRD® for use in the rectum and colon, the gastroduodenal FTRD® for use in the stomach and duodenum and the diagnostic FTRD® for full-wall biopsy for diagnostic purposes.
Since the FTRD® System was launched in 2014, its use has been investigated in over 100 studies. Two meta-analyses by Wannhoff et al. (2021) and Nabi et al. (2024) succinctly summarize the results: FTRD® consistently shows high technical success, a high R0 rate and a low rate of complications requiring surgery.
Over the years, FTRD® has proven itself as a minimally invasive treatment for a variety of indications in clinical practice, including
- FTRD® in the colon and rectum, for example for NETs
- FTRD® for T1 carcinomas
- Hybrid-FTRD® for the resection of larger lesions
- FTRD® in the stomach and duodenum, for example for GISTs or NETs
FTRD® expands the spectrum of possible endoscopic treatments and enables minimally invasive procedures as an alternative to surgical intervention. FTRD® is now part of everyday clinical practice for users in over 60 countries. We at Ovesco not only look back on 10 very successful years with the FTRD®, but also look forward to further expanding the FTRD® System place in endoscopy.
On November 26th at 6pm CET, our webinar on A Decade of FTRD® – Global Insights and Future Directions will take place. Experts from Ovesco and clinics will report on the development of the FTRD®, give tips and tricks and an outlook on the future of full-thickness resection with FTRD®. Secure your place now!
