Hybrid EMR-FTRD® shows promise for large colonic lesions with suspected cancer
International study demonstrates high technical success and favorable oncological outcomes for hybrid approach combining EMR and FTRD® in challenging colonic lesions
Key findings
- High technical success rate achieved with Hybrid-FTRD® technique in 86% (n=51/59) for large colonic lesions with suspected T1 cancer
- No locoregional cancer recurrence was observed during the median follow-up of 16 months
- R0 resection was achieved in 92% of sm1 lesions and 65% of sm2-3 lesions
- 3% adverse events requiring surgical intervention
Study details
- International, multicenter cohort study including data from the Dutch prospective FTRD® registry and three German centers
- 59 patients with large lateral spreading tumors (median size 25mm) with focal suspicion of T1 cancer
- Patients had a median age of 72 years, 53% were male
- Lesion locations: 68% in proximal colon, 32% in distal colon
- Pathological findings confirmed pT1 lesions in 61% of cases, with 53% classified as low-risk and 47% as high-risk
