BARS® effective for reduction of anastomoses in patients with dumping syndrome
Anastomotic reduction with BARS® for patients with dumping syndrome is feasible and safe with significant improvements in Sigstad-Score and modified oGTT
Key findings
- The primary endpoint was the reduction of the anastomotic diameter. It was reduced by -77% (median 38.0mm to 8.9mm)
- Mean procedural time was 40 min, with BARS® itself lasting a median time of 14 min
- Median Sigstad-Score decreased by 12.5 by week 12 (from 17.5 to 5 p<0.001)
- Modified oGTT showed abolished dumping in 50% of the patients, 18% had late dumping at 12 weeks
Study details
- Study included 23 patients with dumping syndrome after RYGB at 3 tertiary care centers in Germany
- 83% of patients were female with a mean age of 41.6
- Pre-treatment was dietary restrictions (100%), acarbose (78%)
- Median BMI decreased from 30.6 to 29.25 (p=0.001)
